What is pageantry?
Dictionary Definition:
pag·eant
ˈpajənt/
noun
- a public entertainment consisting of a procession of people in elaborate, colorful costumes, or an outdoor performance of a historical scene.
synonyms: parade, procession, cavalcade, tableau (vivant); More
- NORTH AMERICANa beauty contest.noun: beauty pageant; plural noun: beauty pageants
- Pageantry is so much more then a dictionary definition. It is not just about being a pretty girl on stage, it is so much more then that. It is about you as a person being a role model to those around you. It is about what you do for your community and creating a sisterhood. It is about sharing your passions, showing you care and creating a platform on what you care about it. It is about helping others around you, volunteer work and dedication. The glitz and glamour are just a plus, but the crown and sash are what help to open doors for you, it is your ticket into getting people to listen about your cause as you create a place for yourself in this world to help create a difference. Pageantry is so much more.
- This is why I choose ANTSO. ANTSO cares, it is about girls bringing positivity, academics, and community service/volunteer work. It is about your inner you, not being a size 0, 6 foot tall, with perfect skin. It is not about being a picture perfect model. It is about your paper work, what you do in your life that makes you a role model, a leader. It is a pageant about you, not a bikini contest. It is what you do for yourself and community, score is based on interview/paperwork for the most of it. It is a pageant true to girls being role models. And that is what I LOVE about ANTSO.
About ANTSO:
ANTSO is the longest running premier pageant for teens in the US. It was founded in 1970, that is almost 50 years! We are a leadership and scholastic pageant."Combining the elements of Scholarship, Service, Success and Style our ANTSO State and National Programs draw on a positive approach to pageantry that implements a scoring system focusing on a “real girl.” With no swimsuit or mandatory talent competition, ANTSO focuses on YOU, as a typical teen in your daily life, highlighting what makes you special! Our scoring system reflects that with 70% of the score focused on Academics, Community Service and Leadership and Interview!"
- ANTSO
ANTSO has awarded over $102 million scholarships since the beginning in 1970.
ANTSO'S MISSION:
"Our mission is to promote strong scholastic ideals, solid leadership principles and high character growth to young women. ANTSO holds to the highest standards of quality and integrity and conducts all competitions in a fair and unbiased manner. America’s National Teenager is recognized as one of the longest running, most prestigious female teen scholarship pageant competitions in the country." -ANTSO
These are the reasons why I AM PROUD to be an ANTSO GIRL! Representing Pennsylvania for ANTSO as your Pennsylvania National Miss 2018 and competing in nationals in Baltimore for Fall 2018.
You want a pageant who is all about who you are as a person representing you and as well as you representing the system. If you are a between the ages of 7 to 25 and interested in pageantry, this is a great organization to be apart of.
JUDGING CATEGORIES:
If you want to know what a pageant system is all about, really look at their scoring system. At ANTSO, we really focus on the GIRL and our scoring system proves it by having 70% of the overall score about academics, community service and interview.
- 30% Interview
- 15% Academics
- 15% Community Service and Leadership/School Activities
- 10% Onstage Question (with a question directly from your paperwork)
- 15% Cocktail Wear
- 15% Evening Gown
*There is no swimsuit portion.
These are the things to look for in a pageant, a pageant that is strictly about you and not being judged on how you look. This is why I represent ANTSO.

I am Jackie Kensey. I am an average girl like anyone else, loving life and wanting to help others and see others succeed. I am only 5 foot tall, with tattoos and in art school. I major in fashion design, double minor in business and textiles. I am not your stereotypical "beauty queen," but I love to be a role model and continue my success like any other, helping my community. I am on the committee for the Miss Amazing organization, in support of girls with disabilities wanting to be in pageants and succeed. My platform is to raise awareness for Endometriosis which is a disease I was diagnosed with at 14 years old that has caused me to be in pain and not able to move for days and have a normal life as the people my age did, where I would miss school and work for being in pain and found myself bedridden. I am getting the help I need now for it, but there is no cure, so I am bringing awareness to this "invisible" disease that affects your insides since no one can tell how truly sick you are. I take my title as Miss Pennsylvania highly and will do whatever I can do for my community.
Thank you.
Jackie Kensey XX
