Concept to Object: Retro Real Girl

Monday: December 17th, 2018

Good Morning Loves!! It has been a while since I have posted due to school and work and all but here I am back during brea and have a fun post for you. Recently most people may know I had a fashion show! And I wanted to share a mini digital portfolio of my concept to object from my collection "Retro Real Girl" that was seen at the fashion show!!!! :) This is how I plan and go from a concept to a object aka my research and planning to my fashion show pieces!!!

Collection: Retro Real Girl

 Mood Board

First I research a topic to get a concept, I was inspired by retro 50's kitchens and pastel colors. The idea was to go off of 50's kitchen objects to create a contemporary women's collection. I create a Mood board from my research, narrow down the photos and create a color palette.

Next is the designing process. I sketched out multiple outfits with multiple ideas and narrowed it down to eight to create a eight piece collection for all my ideas including pants, skirts, dresses, and shorts. My season was Spring.

Next I picked our my fabrics to go with my design illustrations and placed them within. I went around the stores of New York, swatching, to decide on my fabrics to use for this collection.

After this I created hand drawn flats to go with my collection. Flats help to understand the garment more then just a illustration especially if you plan to construct the garment you will know where you add ease, any forms of openings/closures, seams, etc.

This lead to picking three outfits from my illustrations and creating a mini collection for the Moore Fall 2018" Fashion Show at Century 21.

Cropped Top and Joggers:

From my original process for Outfit 1 I mixed two different pieces from my collection to create the outfit since It could be mix and max and I change the top fabric.

 Outfit 2

Velour Jumpsuit:

From outfit 2 I created a two piece sweatsuit but then ended up taking that two piece sweatsuit and turned it into a jumpsuit.

 Outfit 3

Mesh Sports Dress

This was a different color mesh but turned into a white mesh to not be to pink to make the collection more neutral since the collection needed to break up a bit. And this did not include the under layer dress like original and instead was paired with a pair of leggings. For a more sporty feel.

If I were to edit my collection I would add something to tie them together more by adding more details or an element that made them feel more together such as draw strings or something else sporty.

After my final looks shown at the fashion show for my mini collection, I created digital flats for the collection on illustrator.

Digital flats for Outfits 1, 2 and 3.

I wanted to give you guys a sneak peak into how I worked within this collection and I plan on continuing to work on this and improve it.

Now this is RETRO REAL GIRL
